Auction of Golden Days

GOLDEN DAYS
by Marion Hedger
Acrylic on Paper
I've recently put my Etsy shop on hold. I haven't been doing much with it just lately so instead of just letting it die a natural death as items came up for a renewal. I will reassess this sometime in March.

In the meantime I have rejoined Daily Paintworks as it is a site just dedicated to art so more relevant to an artist than Etsy. There is a fee of US$12.95 a month which will hopefully be covered by sales.
Take a look and if you think Daily Paintworks might suit you, the first month is free.

To kick-start my new involvement I have put one of my paintings up for auction starting at $110 or with a Buy it Now option of  $200 a saving of $50 off the normal price of $250.

BLUE IS A CALMING COLOUR

"Blue is the colour of the mind and is essentially soothing; it affects us mentally, rather than the physical reaction we have to red. Strong blues will stimulate clear thought and lighter, soft blues will calm the mind and aid concentration. Consequently it is serene and mentally calming"

CALM WITH A TOUCH OF DRAMA

Blue is a calming colour. I wonder if this is the same for turquoise?

Wandering in Space and Time
by Marion Hedger
30cmx30cm (12x12")
Acylic on Panel

I must have been in a calm mood when painting this painting. the different tints of turquoise set off by that pale lilac adds depth and mood, while the orange provides a touch of contrasting heat which leads the eye around.

Photofunia Sunday Fun -

Come and Discover With Me in a museum setting. I love using the app photofunia to see the art in different settings. Of course, it is no where near as large as this but I do take commissions... 😁😁😁

New Work - Going Larger

BREATHING MOUNTAIN
80X80cm (32x32inch) on 4cm deep box canvas

I am gradually adding my new paintings exhibited at the Surrey Contemporary Art Fair. This is one of the larger ones at 80x80cm. I have to be practical when working larger to make sure the painting doesn't exceed 80cm so it can fit in the car. I can go a little longer, so I might try a few longer ones for the next art fair.

In this painting I was trying to move towards using larger blocks of colour, with good contrast between the lighter areas and darks. The jewel colours of turquoise and orange intially draw your eye in but the sublety in the darks as well as the whites, keep you entertained. Here are some close-ups to show you the details:

Red Miniature Treasures works in progress

New 6"x6" Miniature Treasure Paintings Work in Progress
by Marion Hedger
Oil on gallery wrapped canvas

My previous series of Miniature Treasures were very popular at the Windsor Contemporary Art Fair last November.

I have another art Fair coming up in Surrey during March and have started on a new series for the fair. I'm using recycled canvases which have been sanded down to remove most of the texture created by the palette knife work. A small amount of texture remains which will add depth to the new painting.

These ones have red as their main colours and others (I shall post later) with orange. They will be framed in white floating frames like the previous ones

Ending 2018 on a high ...

The last day of 2018 ended on a high. The gallery owner of the gallery I recently exhibited in purchased these two paintings for his own collection. In addition, a collector came to view her commission painting before I added the final finish and she loved it. Talk about being on cloud nine over the New Year!

Over the years, I have painted several commissions but this was my first abstract commission and quite nerve wracking as abstracts are more subjective. There was a bit of to and froing at the end to get the finishing touches exactly right but worth it.

Happy New Year to you all. Give yourself a toast and look forward to what you can achieve in 2019.

Windsor Art Fair - done and dusted

Windsor Contemporary Art Fair is done and dusted and we are back home again. This time we combined the trip to the Windsor Art Fair with a trip up to Nottingham for a family birthday celebration. The trip over was pretty unremarkable with the weather smiling on us all the way. The only bugbear was the crossing at Dartford which took ages with no obvious reason for the delay.

At Windsor, set up was Friday morning at the Racecourse. There is always a sense of excitement and anticipation when entering the building for the first time at an art fair and seeing all the blank stands, knowing that in a few hours beautiful original art will be on display.

Friday was private view time with lots of art lovers viewing the art with a glass of wine in their hands. The atmosphere was buzzing, and I was pleasantly surprised when the purchaser of my Prince's Trust painting introduced herself. This was closely followed by two collectors who were in the queue wanting to buy the Prince's Trust painting but just missed out. They both purchased one of my small mounted paintings. A big thank you to all three.

Saturday was also busy despite there being tremendous storms and I gained some new collectors. It is always satisfying to know that my art will be loved in its' new home.

Unfortunately, Sunday was a damp squid (literally) with no one really interested in purchasing, although I had a couple of nice conversations with people and interest from an interior designer.

All over for now, but already anticipating the Surrey Contemporary Art Fair next March

Artwork in a Room, which app do you use?

DISRUPTED NARRATIVE
by Marion Hedger
60x60cm on cradled panel
Framed in a white floater frame
Overall size 65x65cm
AVAILABLE

I'm gradually adding room views on my website to make is easier to visualise the art in a room.

Often I use room mock-ups, usually from Mockup World but these involve using Photoshop to get the full benefits from the different layers. I only have Photoshop Elements which is OK but doesn't give the full functionality and often involves a lot of fiddling.

Just lately I have been using the WallApp app which is easy to use but has a limited number of rooms with a sofa.

With the two paintings above I framed the pieces with a white frame similar to those I use in real life (my framed photos did not work out very well) in PSE first. Now I have the frame, creating more room photos will be easy.

What apps do you use to show your art in a setting? Leave a comment and let me know.

Disrupted Narrative abstract art by Marion Hedger

DISRUPTED NARRATIVE
by Marion Hedger
Acrylic/mixed media
60x60cm Framed
Currently in View Gallery, Thames Ditton
AVAILABLE - Contact me

The idea of playing with the theme of 'broken narrative' appealed to me. I used pages out of an old paperback book to give the impression of snatches of conversation heard but not fully understood.
It is currently in the exhibition at View Gallery, Thames Ditton until June 18th.
