A complete change of pace today. I found this forgotten abstract at the bottom of a drawer and I liked the way the shapes danced across the page. I had the idea I could change it to an autumn scene and call if falling leaves.

I coated the mount board with pale cream and added my shapes.
I watched another Nicholas Wilton video about Differences and Spontaneity and one of the techniqes he used was transferring paint using a transfer technique by painting on a piece of greaseproof paper and laying that on the painting. I loved the broken effect and it contrasted nicely with the larger flat painted shapes.

Oh! way too busy and too much blue. One thing I didn't consider was a quiet area versus the busy areas...

A little better.

Where it's at now. Getting busy again and the larger shapes are more or less the same size. Maybe I need to make one of them eg the red one, super large. I also have the urge to coat the whole thing with transparent white and put in some verticals. Maybe like this-

The bridge in this painting is an actual artwork in the Chateau la Coste art and architecture walk See here for details.. It was the light on the rushes under the bridge that caught my eye.
It was a very windy day and I hope I caught some of that in the rushes.

These cabanons dot the landscape in Provence. Many of them have been left to the elements and are in variouos stages of collapse. This one with the tree growing through it caught my eye.

I am flagging today. It might have something to do with be up very early and going into Nice to clean my holiday apartment and then meeting people at the airport and not arriving home until lunchtime without having had any breakfast!

Hopefully I will get a second wind later this afternoon.

I am going away tomorrow for a couple of days so shall play catch-up on Tuesday.

This is a scene from Hanbury gardens. I realised I have given this painting the same title as one I painted two years ago for the 2014 challenge. I shall have to think of a new title.

I have been comparing the two paintings and the older painting is much warmer. This has made me think of warming up the shadows in today's painting. What do you think?

As we take our drives out and about we always seem to hit the villages just after lunch time. The villages seem deserted and all the shops are closed giving the village a deceptive calmness.

I feel this painting needs something to give it a bit of zing, so I will put it aside for now and re-assess it in a few days.

This plant was a gift from a friend. The colour of the hydrangea was really nice but the pot appealed to me more. The rough texture was very tactile.

Who doesn't love Ikebana flower arrangements. I had an urge to paint one with chrysthanthemums but they turned into carnations. I often find I start out wit one idea and as I start painting my impetus changes. Not much different to chrysanths are they!

Here we go again - will I never learn!

What was I thinking! I've signed up for another of Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.

I probably won't complete 30 paintings, as my family visitors are here until the 9th September. If I'm lucky I might be able to cheat and paint a couple over the next two days when they are all staying in our holiday apartment in Nice. I have not been painting much this year as my father was ill and passed away in February and I have been organising the probate, add that to never having time in the summer anyway and I now feel I need a kick to get started again. 

These challenges can be hard, the pressure is all self inflicted, but it certainly helps to boost confidence and increase skills. 

I have taken part in 30 painting in 30 days challenges before and afterwards and always amazed at what I have achieved. They are not all winners of course, but many of them are. The collage above is of last Septembers challenge. Read the original post here.

Another 6x8"for day 9. The sun rise and sunsets in Namibia are wonderful. Sometimes very bright, sometimes more subdued.

A smaller painting for day 7 which once again evokes Etosha Pan, a dried up salt lake which floods in the rainy season Looking into the distance it is impossible to tell where the pan ends and the sky starts.. Painted on a smooth blended background with touches of impasto. The cool pastel colours invoke the early morning light.
