Reaching for the Sun palette knife painting

Reaching for the Sun
Provence Sunflower painting
18x24cm (approx 7x10)
oil on 3mm MDF canvas panel

After my recent trip to the lavender and sunflower area I had the impetus to finish some paintings started last year. The sunflowers were much smaller and blooming later than normal and did not give their usual showy display. Luckily, I have the photos from last year to remind me. Often the sunflowers are way ahead of the lavender, but probably because of our cold spring this year they will need another couple of weeks. Maybe a good excuse to go on another trip.

About this painting
Another re-invigoragated painting by painting into a wax and liquin mixture like yesterday's painting.

Here are a couple of close-ups to show the texture

Vineyard painting - Waiting for the Bees

Waiting for the Bees - Provence vineyard painting
Oils, palette knife
18x24cm (approx. 7"x10") on 3 mm MDF canvas panels.
Available
You may have noticed that I like painting vineyards. (As an aside - I also like drinking the end product, always in moderation of course!). They always make for an interesting painting with the lines of the vines taking your eye through the painting. Care has to be taken that you don't created tramlines and very straight lines that don't allow the eye to rest and explore.

Provence in bloom, Poppy field in Provence oil painting

Provence in Bloom
Palette knife oil painting
30x40x2cm (12x16inch)
Sides painted black.

About this Painting
Another painting, this time larger, of the wild flower meadow photo I took last summer, see here. I used a bit of artistic licence and enhanced the poppies. As you know, I do like red!

Daisy Miniature Treasure Paintings Immpressionist flowers

I've been in the mood for painting florals over the last few days and daisies were the ideal subject. Part of my miniature treasures paintings. The petals have thick impasto paint.

Gentle Meandering - Japanese Stream oil painting

Gentle Meandering
Oil Palette Knife Painting

I wasn't quite happy with the light in the background trees see Here. It was a dull day and then the sun suddenly broke through and I wanted to emphasise that. I lightened part of the background and put in a few other touches.

Some close-ups of the knife work.
