The weather has been much colder lately. We are still getting some sun in the day but apparently that changes tomorrow when the snow is expected to arrive in the Alps. The change in the weather has prompted me to clear out my studio so that I can actually work in it. During spring and summer my studio is the dump room for anything art related - and sometimes not.

The changing season has got me thinking about autumn paintings. I have already had one request for an autumn painting with reflections and so I looked through my archive to review my previous ones with fall color  - so I thought I would share the review.

Autumn Joy Day 19 of the 30 day challenge

Autumn Joy
palette knife painting
day 19 of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.
18x24cm, Oil on MDf Canvas panel
See all of the paintings so far

Over the weekend I took a couple of days out of the challenge to visit a sculpture park in Chateau la Coste vineyard about 2.5 hours drive away from home. The sculpture park was well worth the trip. Sculptures are placed all around the vineyard and the walk is about 2 hours long with a lot of up hill thrown in. It was very unusual and very well thought out. See here for details.

As a consequence I am all over the place with posting and which days I have posted LOL. I shall have to collect my thoughts together and get organised again.

Light in the Woods, palette knife oil painting

Light in the Woods
Palette knife oil painting on MDF canvas panel
18x24cm (approx 7"x10")
Available in my Etsy store

I love painting silver birch trees. This one was painted from a photo taken in Spring as the fresh growth was bursting out, but with the winter brown undergrowth being slow on the uptake! The shaft of sunshine brought the scene to life for me.
Colourful Birches
This painting shows a different treatment of the trees, I have used goauche in a thick loose impressionist way.

SOLD - Autumn Explosion Silver Birch landscape painting

Autumn Explosion Landscape
Silver birches in autumn
Palette knife painting
18x24cm on canvas panel

In this painting I wanted to give the illusion of the confusion of colours that can occur in a woodland during Autumn. I went a bit wild with the palette knife putting in juicy dabs of colour.

This painting is now SOLD and on its way to the UK.

A companion piece to this painting is  Autumn Silver Birches
