Lavender and Yellow Provence, Day 5 of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.

Lavender and Yellow Provence
by Marion Hedger
Day 5 30 paintings in 30 days challenge
18x24cm, oil on MDF canvas panel

AVAILABLE on my website

This is a scene from our last lavender trip. We were in a different area than normal and some of the hillside were covered in brilliant yellow which contrasted so well with the lavender. This is a study in not over-working and keeping it loose with a larger painting in mind.

By the way - the yellow was broom in full flower. Wonderful.

Lavender Wonderland oil palette knife painting

Lavender Wonderland by Marion Hedger
palette knife painting
Oil on artist quality 3mm thick MDF canvas panel,
Size = 30x 30cm (approx 12"x12")
An impressionistic Provencal landscapes painting featuring the scenery of Provence, France and showing the Lavender fields marching up to the distant mountains. Imagine you can smell the lavender and feel the peacefulness with only the buzzing of the bees to disturb the quiet.

About this paintinng
The thickly applied strokes add texture and movement to the oil painting, a modern use of impressionism. It is painted loosely to give a lively feel and movement to the painting and show off the colours.

I actually started this painting last year, and in anticipation of my recent annual trip to the lavender fields, I had a sudden impetus to finish it!

Day 3 #AbundantArtShow - Show your art in a new way

Wonderful Lavender Provence
In-situ using WallApp
50x40cm oil on stretched canvas
Palette knife painting
AVAILABLE

Day 3's task is "to share something new, unique or different about your work. What way can you show off your work that you haven’t done before? Take a look at some of the examples from yesterday’s challenge."

I have often wondered where artists get the images for their room settings to display their art. I vaguely remember Sea Dean writing something about it on her blog Sea Dean - Paint a Masterpiece Blog

So I trawled her blog and discovered this post. A great app and one I shall be using again. I agree with her assessment of the app so I will let you read her post to save repeating it. The biggest drawback with the app is the inability to size your app to the correct proportion, it's all a little bit of guesswork.

Here's another setting for Sky Reach (now sold)

Wonderful Lavender, Palette knife painting.

Wonderful Lavender Palette knife painting
40x50cm (16x20") oil on gallery wrapped canvas 2cm deep

I'm not doing very well with the challenge. I seem to have run out of motivation and could not get really get into the mood for painting over the last few weeks. I started this painting sometime before Christmas as I had the urge to paint larger than my norm,  and yesterday my motivation seemed to reappear. I added some finishing touches and I am now calling this one done. Perhaps now I might complete some more paintings for the challenge.

About this painting,
I left the foreground very loose and washy and resisted the temptation to add more to it. I like the contrast with the more texture on the rest of the painting.

Provence Lavender palette knife oil painting

Available in my Etsy Store

A different format and orientation for this small painting. I have lots of canvasses that have accumulated over the years waiting for inspiration to strike. I had already painted a ground on this in a mix of blue, pink and yellow horizontal blocks and then did not do anything with it. I noticed it again a few days ago and as the block in was horizontal, it suggested a portrait format, not the typical orientation for my landscapes. The light bulb went on and this is the result.
Here are some close-ups of the knife work
