I love the purple and yellow ochre colours of the provence landscape in July. The lavender and sunflower fields with a backdrop of the mountains are made to be painted. I have deliberately kept this loose with no real detail to try to capture the overall feel of the countryside.

Beautiful Daffodil - Garden Series 101 Oil paintings

Beautiful Daffodil
by Marion Hedger
Garden 101 daily paintings series No.9
22 x 27cm, oil on canvas board.
I've jumped ahead as the photos of numbers7 and 8 did not come out and I will have to retakes them. I had some beautiful daffs this year but sadly they are mostly all gone now. There is nothing that quite matches that lovely yellow colour throughout the garden after the winter. A real heralding of better things to come.
I quite like the way the brushstrokes are visible on this one. I managed to avoid overblending and I love the result.

"I have challenged myself to paint 101 small daily life paintings inspired by my garden. My main aim is to improve my my eye to brush skills with a loose lively style. At the moment I plan to use oils, so that as a bonus I will improve my oil handling skills. I don't doubt that some will be done in different media depending on how the mood takes me. I aim to do at least 5 a week."

Orange Slice, Daily 101 #6 oil painting

'Orange  Slice' oil painting
by Marion Hedger
Garden 101 daily paintings series No.6
22 x 27cm, oil on canvas board.
Number 6 in the garden 101 series - I have been keeping up with my paintings but not with my photography. I took a load of photos this morning so will gradually post more. I enjoyed this one. I love the way the orange slice turned out, and apart from the sharp corner at the bottom of the glass, I am very pleased. I still need to go a little thicker with the paint. I used a little linseed oil a a medium in this one.

Garden series 101 #5, Orange Tea, oil painting

'Orange  Tea' oil painting
by Marion Hedger
Garden 101 daily paintings series No.5
22 x 27cm, oil on canvas board.

Number five in the series of oranges picked fresh from the tree. I cut the oranges to give the segments, and to add something different I placed a cup sideways to give the composition more depth and also add to the challenge! I like painting orange segments - strange I know, but they are challenging to paint with their rounded ends and the light hitting the flesh.

Garden 101 Series #4 - Orange Segments oil painting

Garden 101 Series #4 - Orange Segments
still life oil painting by Marion Hedger
5"x7" oil on canvas board
This one is of three orange segments balanced against one another. I placed them on glass so that some of the reflections would be part of the compostion. I was quite pleased with this one, although I do need to become more precise with my brush strokes - but that's the rub isn't it? How to do that and still remain loose and lively. I did not draw this one first but used diluted acrylic paint to mark the outline. It was painted on a white ground.

Garden 101 Series #3 - Orange Balance oil painting

Orange Balance
by Marion Hedger
Garden 101 daily paintings series No.3
19x27cm size, oil on canvas board.
For Sale 35€
Number 3 in the series, this time of fresh oranges. Our orange tree was looking a little unhealthy this year due to a very dry summer and autumn, but it still managed to produce heaps of fruit. Being able to squeeze fresh orange juice from freshly picked oranges each morning is a treat at this time of year.

It takes three to tango - Lemon painting
by Marion Hedger
Garden 101 daily paintings series No.2
22 x 27cm, oil on canvas board.
For Sale 40€

Number two in the series of lemons picked fresh from the tree. My lemon tree is very prolific and produces these lovely lemons all year round. I like the light effect in this one. Painted alla prima in front of a sunny window. Those shadows moved so fast.
